| Objective: | Build upon the achievements of the first Phase of the project “Capacity Building for Gender Mainstreaming in Albania”, this project aims to enhance the process of engendering the policies and strategies of the public institutions, with a special focus in the area of education. On the other, it seeks to enhance efforts on increasing gender awareness of the general public and the mass media through a comprehensive public information and media campaign strategy, which will effectively reach various audiences, including government, donors, private sector, civil society organizations and schools. |
| Description: | Objective To support the Gender Institute to become a sustainable centre with high research capacity specifically on gender issues in Albania, by offering also Master’s Programme course in “Gender and Development” and other academic short-term courses for professionals who work or seek to work in the area of gender. Description The project is facilitating the formalization of the Institute within the Faculty of Social Studies at the University of Tirana, by transforming it beyond a network of professionals to an organized functional unit, able to conduct policy research and to deliver courses. These academic and training programmes are offered for university students as well as professionals from the government and civil society sectors. The project is supporting the deployment of international lecturers to work alongside nationals in delivering the MA programme. At a more practical level, the project will focus on raising the profile of the Institute vs the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders through building the Institute's capacities to lead Gender Equality processes in the country through providing training and research services to local organizations. Objective Strengthening capacities of the Ministry of Education in Gender Mainstreaming in Education Sector Description Based on the recommendations of the policy Analysis of the Ministry of Education, the project is assisting and advising departments of the Ministry to undertake the necessary steps which will initiate a process of incorporating a gender sensitive approach within the overall sector of education. The focus is the process of revising the curricula; collecting sex-dissagregated data in schools which later can be used to develop and implement appropriate strategies and programmes that take into consideration gender implications within the educational environment. All the Education Research Institutes responsible for the development and revision of the school curricula are considered to be the multilevel partners within the overall and general partnership with the Ministry of Education. Objective Initiating a process of integrating theoretically and practically gender specific curricula Description The project is aiming through the collaboration with Education and Social Sciences Faculties and Regional Departments of Education, to lead a process of training teachers and lecturers on how to work with gender sensitive curricula and programme, how to approach the students and pupils with a more sensitive and realistic gender participatory model and how to reflect, they themselves but also encourage the students to do so, about the gender inequalities and stereotypes that are transmitted and rooted through the traditional gender roles and models. Objective Further incorporation of gender mainstreaming concepts and thematic on the overall and other specific training programme of the Training Institute for the Public Administration Description Drawing up on the previous experience during the first phase of the project “Capacity Building for Gender Mainstreaming” on working with TIPA, the project will facilitate a series of training with civil servants on different issues related to gender policies and development of programmes and strategies that take into consideration and address gender realistically the gender components. Furthermore, GM2 Project will continue to support gender training session as part of the induction programme applied from TIPA with new hired civil servants. |
