Press Releases for this area
Ongoing Projects for this area
European and Euro-Atlantic integration, along with rapid and sustainable growth, remain overarching goals for Albania. Therefore, socio-economic development, strategic planning, sound public finance and external assistance management, anti-corruption, powered by an increased use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for development, represent major national priorities.
In response, UNDP has launched programmes contributing to improved governance and institutional strengthening in the country.
UNDP, in cooperation with the Government of Albania, is implementing the Brain Gain Programme, which supports the Government in preparing a policy framework on the Diaspora's engagement with Albanian socio-economic development.
To support the Government of Albania's Programme of addressing extra-legality, UNDP Albania is partnering with Hernando de Soto’s Institute for Liberty and Democracy (ILD) in providing a comprehensive approach to the transition process from dispersed extra-legal arrangements to a single rule of law and an inclusive market economy.
The GovNet and e-Accounting projects complement UNDP efforts in the field of ICT. UNDP is working to extend Government Electronic Network coverage by offering ICT services and training for government IT specialists. The e-Accounting project supports the Ministry of Finance in enhancing its IT system and the use of International Public Sector Accounting Standards.
The Integrated Planning System (IPS) represents a broad planning and monitoring platform that aims to ensure that core policy and financial processes developed by the Government of Albania function in an integrated manner. These core processes include the National Strategy on Development and Integration (NSDI) and the Mid-Term Budgetary Programme. UNDP and other donor partners in the country are working together with the Government while offering expertise in the establishment of the Department of Strategy and Donor Coordination (DSDC) under the Council of Ministers as the first step towards a successful functioning of the IPS.
UNDP supports implementation of a new law on domestic violence, and development of a National Strategy against domestic violence.
UNDP is supporting the National Roma Strategy, by establishing a sustainable monitoring and progress reporting mechanism within the Roma Committee, based at the Ministry of Labour and Equal Opportunities. UNDP is also supporting the Ministry of Labour’s Roma Monitoring Committee to collect and analyze data from government sources.
